Paris is the co-author of ‘iPhone and iPad Game Development For Dummies’ (in the bestselling technology series), an upcoming Cocoa & Objective-C (for Mac and iPhone) book and a book on Unity Game Development.
Paris is co-founder of Secret Lab Pty. Ltd., leading production and design efforts in the mobile game and app development space. A frequent speaker at conferences, workshops and training sessions, Paris enjoys discussing engineering, product development, design and other facets of the mobile and game development worlds.
Between 2009 and 2011, Paris led mobile product design and development with Meebo, one of fastest growing media companies (Meebo reaches almost half of all Internet users in the US).
Paris is a guru on ‘gamification’ (the annoying buzzword of the moment) and enjoys delivering presentations and consulting sessions on the topic worldwide.
Paris founded and led ithinkitworks P/L from 2001 to 2008, spearheading product development and design efforts on a variety of platforms including desktop Linux, Windows, Mac OS, Palm OS, Windows Mobile/Pocket PC and others.
Paris is also a highly experienced software developer, product and project manager. Key experiences include Objective-C/Cocoa on the Macintosh and iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad platforms, Java on Blackberry and Google Android and C# on Windows Mobile. Open GL ES and Unity are also favourites.
Currently, Paris undertaking a graduate research candidacy (PhD) at the University of Tasmania. His research area is technology assisted information management and tool design. The expected completion date is 2013-2014.
Selected Activities
- 2000 – 2008 – Founded ithinkITworks, Freelance Software Development business. Lead developer on numerous varied projects in C#, .NET, Windows Mobile, Cocoa, Mac, Windows, Gnome, KDE, GTK+, Qt and others.
- 2008 – Founded Secret Lab, a independent game and application development studio for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, web, Mac and PC.
- 2008 – Java, Programming & Problem Solving, and Programming Data Structures help session leader (teaching assistant/tutor) for Computing students at the University of Tasmania.
- 2009 – Class tutor and marker (teaching assistant) for Artificial Intelligence (third-year unit), Software Construction (second-year unit) and Computer Graphics & Animation (third-year unit) units at the University of Tasmania.
- 2010-2011 – Leading Secret Lab in a variety of ventures based in Australia and the United States while writing iPhone and iPad Game Development for Dummies and Unity Mobile Game Development for Everyone and researching (towards a PhD in Computing).
