  • June 2009 – July 2009: Attending Apple’s WWDC in San Francisco, CA, meetings in Los Angeles, CA (6 weeks)
  • August 2009 – September 2009: Meetings and business in Mountain View, CA (2 weeks)
  • September 2009: Speaking at the AUC /dev/world/2009 Conference in Canberra (3 days)
  • October 2009: Impromptu trip to Melbourne to visit the United States Consulate for Non-Immigrant Processing (2 days)
  • October 2009: Working on-site with client in Mountain View, CA (1 week)
  • October 2009: Attending Unity’s Unite 2009 Conference in San Francisco, CA (1 week)
  • October 2009 – November 2009: Working on-site with client in Mountain View, CA (4 weeks)
  • November 2009: Presenting at OZCHI 2009 in Melbourne (1 week)
  • December 2009: Presenting at the AUC CreateWorld 2009 Conference in Brisbane (3 days)
  • December 2009: Running the 3-day intensive AUC Unity Workshop in Sydney (3 days)
  • December 2009: (Tentative) Running 3-day iPhone Workshop in Melbourne (3 days)

Again, it’s been quite some time since my last post! A few interesting things have been happening:

  • A paper I wrote got accepted into OZCHI! This pleases me greatly! So I’ll be heading there in November.
  • Pending our upcoming E-3 Visa issuance, the Secret Lab team will be heading to Mountain View, California to work for a month in two weeks. That should be great fun!
  • The AUC /dev/world/2009 conference went very well! #fingUTAS (also known as the University of Tasmania) gave a great bunch of presentations, and hosted a fun Quiz Night and Lightning Talks. All the presentations were great! My two presentations went very well, and will be available for download in the near future!
  • The most recent TUCS Tech Talks, starring pjf were a huge success! Paul is an amazing speaker, and we got an amazing crowd!

More congratulations are due to another friend, Jess “EvilJess” Lethbridge, who has scored an ADC Student Scholarship to WWDC 2009. She joins the UTAS delegation being sent by the AUC: me, Andrew Bennett, Jon Manning, Josh Deprez, Jess Clarke and our evil lab-master, Tony Gray.

Our departure for WWDC is a little under 4 weeks away! A good time is sure to be had by all! In other news, the press release for Secret Lab’s game, Day of the Tiki has gone out! Look upon it and marvel!

Also, a big congratulations to my friends and business partners Andrew Bennett and Jon Manning, both of whom have just won the prestigious AUC Student Developer Scholarship! Congratulations are also due to AUC colleague Nick Circosta for winning as well! Congratulations and well done to everyone!

Also! Andrew, Jon and myself will be at WWDC in sunny San Francisco this year. We’ll be in San Francisco between the 5th and 24th of June, so if anyone wants to meet up for a coffee or something, let us know (email or @thesecretlab!

Just a quick note to say I’ll be delivering the Tasmanian branch of the ACS’s (Australian Computer Society) IT in the Club talk for March. I’ll be speaking on my recently completed Honours and newly-started PhD work on “pilers” and “filers” in Personal Information Management (PIM). It’s a free event for students and ACS members (and possibly the general public) and there’s typically free food and drink. I’d love to see some of you there!

Just got back from a whirlwind tour of Melbourne, then Sydney – Jon and I have been running three-day REALbasic workshops for the AUC. Both went extremely well, a clever and engaging bunch of students all around! The material will be available online shortly, I’ll update this post when it’s up.

I was also pleased to find out I achieved a grade of First Class Honours for my Honours work this semester. I’ll be heading into a PhD next year – wish me luck!

Secret Lab is doing well at the moment, we’ve made some great contacts in recent weeks and are embarking on some exciting projects! More to come soon, it’s all very secret still!

It was a tremendous success, some great sessions were run. Jon Manning, Andrew Bennett and myself attended as presented and had some great feedback from our sessions on AppleScript, OpenGL and Polishing Applications, respectively. I met some great people and learnt a few new things.That\'s Number Wang!

Also, the trivia night was absolutely awesome; kudos to the University of Tasmania/AUC’s Tony Gray for running that (with a little help from the Secret Lab team.)
